3月の誕生石　アクアマリン
Aquamarine - the Birthstone of March


アクアマリンの鉱物名はベリルと言い、
他のベリル宝石の仲間には  
緑色ならエメラルド
黄色はヘリオドール
ピンクはモルガナイトと正式名称として呼ばれています。

Aquamarine's mineral name is beryl, and other beryl gemstones are officially called emerald for green, heliodor for yellow, and morganite for pink.


透明度の高い海水のようなブルーが最も良質とされる
アクアマリンの硬度は7.5〜8(ダイヤモンド最硬度10)
全く天然の写真のような深い水色の美しいアクアマリンは希少価値が高く、
ほとんどはベリル鉱石に加熱処理(エンハンスメント)で美しいブルーに
変化するものが市場に出ていますが、それが粗悪というのではありません。

The hardness of aquamarine is 7.5 to 8 (the hardest diamond is 10), and the clear, seawater-like blue color is considered the best quality.

Beautiful aquamarines with a deep aqua blue color like the one in the photo are rare. Most of the aquamarines in the market are beryl ores that have been heat-treated to enhance a beautiful blue color, but this does not mean they are substandard.


ブラジルのサンタマリア鉱山産を「サンタマリア」と呼び、
天然の上質の等級とされていますが、今では埋蔵量の枯渇により
幻のアクアマリンとも言われています。

Aquamarine from the Santa Maria mine in Brazil is called “Santa Maria” and is considered one of the finest natural grades, but is now said to be a phantom aquamarine due to depletion of reserves.


天然の宝石には自然の力を感じます。
アクアマリンのブルーにはその名の通り澄んだ海のように、
おおらかで吸い込まれそうな柔らかな水面の様です。
神様は水の清らかさのイメージでお造りになられたのでしょう。

The blue of aquamarine, as its name indicates, is like the clear sea, like the surface of soft water that looks generous and drawing in.
